Product Review: Rubicon 28mm 1/56th Scale Tiger 1E

So a friend wanted a Tiger for his Bolt Action force, don't ask just..nevermind, so he arranged for a Tiger to be ordered now I intercepted it before he could get it so I set about looking at it an putting it together.

Now what you get for your $40ish dollars is a really nicely detailed kit with options for and Early Tiger, A Desert Tiger with Air filters or a late war Tiger a set of decals and some very easy to follow instructions. This vehicle is non Zimmerit.

The track wheels and running gear are a dream to assemble coming as part of the track itself no fiddly semi rubber track here once this is on the rest of the tank takes about 20 minutes to assemble. The vehicle itself doesn't have a commander but that's okay.

My Bolt Action Marines All Done!

So after a couple of weeks of casual painting I completed my 750 point USMC List for the Auckland Open although I didn't win I got 2 draws and one loss also a new found respect for Artillery after learning about it's ability to fire over open sights much nastyness.

Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures during the event because I felt ridiculously sick and forgot my camera and I didn't want to subject you to my phone camera. I also need to make another photobooth!

Bolt Action is a GO!!!

Recently I gave Bolt Action a go and tell you what it's what I've been looking for in 28mm at first I was hesitant to get into another WW2 game, what with the thousands of dollars of un-assembled Flames of war Miniatures, however I had a demo game and I fell in love...

If you still like 28mm but are sick of 40K this is a very good replacement it's play is pretty balanced and because there's no I go, you go system just dice pulled from a bag determining who goes next and an easy to understand rules system makes this a whole lot of fun and while you're having this fun you'll also note it's very tactical.

Now what army to choose at first I was going to do Commandos or regular British but I though hrrrmm I've got all those in 15mm and I'd feel bad for starting over in 28mm, it's weird I know, then I had a eureka moment and came to the decision to use US Marines and 750 points later I haven't looked back I've even painted something for it...

God Wills it PART 2

So over the course of threeish weeks I've completed my 6 point Saga Warband. I hand painted the Crossbowmen and Foot Warriors and Hearthguard on foot but after painting that much white you hit a wall. So the knights and hearthguard on horse were all done with my airbrush and it saved soooo much time.

My List is made from the Crusaders list in the Saga book Crescent and Cross which also has the Saga rules within it too it makes it a very cost effective book and it tidies up some of the issues in the previous rule books.

My list consists of:

Warlord

4 Knights on Foot

4 Knights on Foot 

8 Warriors on Foot

8 Warriors on Foot w/ Crossbows

4 Knights on Horse

8 Warriors on Horse

You may have also noticed a theme throughout the list :P there's a few small things that need finishing like varnishing and big flag for the Warrior horse guy.

All the mini's were from Fireforge Games http://www.fireforge-games.com/ but purchased from Wayland games for cheap this whole list came out of 2 boxes and one old Warhammer figure.

GOD WILLS IT!

So as previously, sort of, not really thought about I've decided after one demo game to start Saga and as usual I'm not contents with smelly Norse folk or the sheep loving Welsh I've chosen Crusaders from the new supplement Crescent and the Cross.

I didn't 100% know what was contained within the book so I headed off to Fireforge miniatures for some of their sweet Templars but once again not content with tradition I though hells why not give my Warlord and his knights a more Holy Grail theme.....

How about Warhammer 40K 7th Edition.......

How about nah. With all the goings on in the miniature and wargaming world it's hard to find something that latches on and just going through this blog and my friends blogs I found that we all have a sort of Wargamers ADD so I've decided for the rest of the year at least to limit myself to a few core games.

First things first what's that green garbage can doing shooting a steel fisted gorilla? Killing it that's what! Welcome to the world of Dust an alternative WW2 sci-fi-ish game with Walkers, Zombies, Suicide Zombies, Gorillas, Jet planes, Lasers, Phasers, Tesla weapons and all other kinds of awesome stuff! Dust currently has 2 different types of games Tactics and Warfare. Tactics is played on a paper map thingee with squares and reminds me of Hero Clicks. Warfare is played on a normal wargaming table but seems a bit too complicated for my liking.

Enter Battlefront, you know these guys they make that popular Flames of War game all the kids can afford, anyways Phil Yates is part man, part computer and is working (with the help of a few dashing playtesters and Damian) on something called Dust Battlefield http://www.dust-tactics.com/Home/tabid/56/entryid/167/Default.aspx something of an in between and really fun!

I like this game because I get to play with big tank walker robot thingees have Zombies and Heavily armored Laser troopers all in the same list. The mini's are fun to paint and now that I've used awesome man skills to fix both my airbrushes my walkers are going to look sweet. Also sneak peek WIP recon grenadier.

Please note: As much as I wanted to have Nazi Zombies it seems as though Dust has played the Red Alert card and Hitler is out of the way so no swastikas or Nazi Zombies although I'm sure regular Zombies are just as evil.

Big Guns never tire

BOOM! 3 hours work and Dad has himself a em-placed Earthshaker canon. I find painting 28mm is a bit easier after spending 10 odd years painting 15mm same techniques just embiggened. Might have to paint more of this big stuff I just don't want to have to play or pay for it :)

Warzone Resurrection a series of unfortunate events

Holy cow it finally arrived after Prodo's suffered from Fraud, Flooding, F*cking couriers, Sickness, Machine breakdown and whatever else ruined their deadline. These are, however, the risks you take on with any Kickstarter but it is here now and I was one of the last to receive mine so let us review.

The rulebook is just under 300 pages long it's well constructed and looks to be rugged enough to dragged out often.

The first 25 pages are fluff the next section is the actual rules and so far seems easy to follow following on from this you've got the lists and special unit rules.

 One thing the book is missing is a painting guide but this is more than made up for with the awesome artwork both new and some from 20+ years ago.

Overall it flows well, looks good and seems durable.

The miniatures have come a long way from the 90's. If you remember the 90's you'll remember chunky mini's made of depleted uranium and hilarious paint jobs we've come along way since 20 odd years ago.

Although not ideal the mini's are made in a blue resin, I do believe they told the kickstarters they would get plastic toys, and are very well detailed. Below are some awesomely painted toys.

The future has another race/nationality/megacorp Imperial on the way and they do look very nice in renders so far. There's 7 forces available in Warzone Resurrection they are Capitol Corp, Bauhaus Corp, Mishima Corp, Cybertronic Corp, The Brotherhood, The Dark Legion and the upcoming Imperials.

What else? Hows about an RPG? It looks good from what I've heard made by the same folks who made Achtung Cthulhu here watch this video also there's like 4 days left so support it!
